METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR RELIEVING STRESS IN COMBUSTION CASE OF GAS TURBINE ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion case for a gas turbine engine, which is simple and inexpensive. SOLUTION: A typical combustion case (58) is generally cylindrical or conical. Apertures penetrate the case (58) from an outer surface to an inner surface. The apertures (15) act as concentration points for stress. To dissipate the stress, bosses strengthen the apertures with each aperture (15) having two bosses (18) one of which is on the outer surface of the case and the other of which is on the inner surface of the case. The invention dissipates the stress by providing an array of T-slots (25) on the inner surface. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
