<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new means for preventing the degradation or variation in intensity by heat of an overhead backlight. <P>SOLUTION: In the overhead backlight, a tubular lamp 4 having electrodes 16 at both longitudinal ends is disposed in a case 2 having a non-light emitting area 8a around a light-emitting surface part 3a, and an inverter 5 for turning on the tubular lamp 4 is provided. In the case 2, a heat shield plate 28 is provided which divides a first space 29 mainly behind the light-emitting surface 3a from a second space 30 mainly behind the non-light emitting area 8a. The inverter 5 is provided in the second space 30, and in the tubular lamp 4, each of the electrodes 16 at the longitudinal both ends is located in the second space 30, and a longitudinal middle part 18 is located in the first space 29. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
