The bumper comprises a tubular sliding gate fixed to the vehicle structure relative to which a tubular plunger element (3) with an end contact plate slides. Between the sliding gate and the plunger are two energy controlled absorption assemblies. These are low energy absorption springs (12a, 12b) and high energy inelastic absorption elements (15a,15B) which are activated from a deformation threshold determined by the low energy absorption springs.
