PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform high-accuracy image input corresponding to the shape of a subject, its position and illuminating environment without increasing the scale of a circuit or its costs. SOLUTION: This image input device is provided with an LED for irradiating a subject 17 with light, a sensor 6 including a plurality of pixels disposed two- dimensionally for detecting light from the subject, and a control means 9 for changing the light irradiation conditions of the LED in a cycle longer than a scanning cycle for a single screen. This subject identification system is provided with the image input device and an identifying means 204 for collating the image signal of the subject from the image input device with the preliminarily acquired image signal of the subject.
