PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for measuring distance inexpensively, capable of measuring the distance precisely with a simple system. SOLUTION: The method for measuring distance comprises a first step, a second step, a third step, a fourth step, and a fifth step. In the first step, light is irradiated by a light irradiating means to a first reference object, and a distance conversion table, in which the image formation position on an image sensor is stored correspondingly to the distance between the light irradiating means and the first reference object, is produced. In the second step, light is irradiated by the light irradiating means under a prescribed condition to a second reference object disposed at a prescribed distance from the light irradiating means, and the reference image formation position is obtained. In the third step, light is irradiated by the light irradiating means to the second reference object, and the difference between the obtained image forming position and the reference image forming position obtained in the second step is calculated. In the fourth step, the distance conversion table is corrected according to the calculated difference. In the fifth step, the distance between the light irradiating means and the object of measurement is calculated based on the distance conversion table corrected in the fourth step according to the image forming position of the image sensor having received the reflected light from the object.
