<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor element capable of trapping a poisonous substance in a porous protective layer, preventing it from reaching an electrode on the side of a gas to be measured, and maintaining a stable sensor output over a long period and to provide its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The gas sensor element is comprised of a solid electrolytic body 10, the electrode 12 on the side of the gas to be measured provided for the solid electrolytic body 10 to be in contact with the gas to be measured, and an electrode 11 on the side of a reference gas to be in contact with the reference gas. The electrode 12 on the side of the gas to be measured is covered with the porous protective layer 14 made of a heat-resistive metal oxide containing a getter material, and the getter material is an alkali silicate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
