<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a user interface provided with a portable terminal as a standard is not user-friendly. <P>SOLUTION: This electronic device 10 has a main body 12 with which a display unit is integrated, a mechanism provided in the main body 12 for mounting an expansion unit 20, communication parts 22, 24, 26, 28 provided in the main body 12 for optically communicating with the expansion unit 20, and the expansion unit 20 detachably attached to the mechanism. The expansion unit 20 has a fixed member 14 for connecting with the main body 12, a turnable member 16 that can be turned and is connected to the fixed member 14, light casting mechanisms 38, 36, 34, 32, 30 for casting a light used for the communication in a uniform direction even when the turnable member 16 is turned.
