PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element excellent in luminous efficiency, luminescence intensity, color purity, or the like, of blue color light. SOLUTION: The organic EL element has organic thin film layers containing an emitter layer between a positive electrode and a negative electrode, and one layer in the organic thin film layers contains 1,3,6,8-tetraphenylpyrene compound expressed by a formula (1), and carbazole derivative expressed by a formula (2). However, in the formula (1), R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>4</SP>may be mutually the same, or may be different from each other, and express a hydrogen atom or a substituent. In the formula (2), Ar expresses multivalent aromatic group or a heterocyclic aromatic group, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>may be mutually the same, or may be different from each other, and express hydrogen atom or a substituent, and n expresses an integer. Carbazole derivative expressed with a formula (2) is desirable to be the compound expressed with the following constitutional formula 4,4'-bis(9- carbazolyl)-biphenyl (CBP) or its derivative.
