<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a reception side to perform image treatment suitable for the characters or images, on the basis of an irreversibly compressed image received from a transmitter side, in an image electronic transmission system. <P>SOLUTION: An image transmission apparatus performs an image optimizing correction treatment corresponding to each region, such as a treatment in which a filter for emphasizing filter is used for a character portion, a treatment in which a filter for smoothing image is used for an image portion or a treatment in which color components of achromatic characters are reset, to apply irreversible compression to an image, and transmits the image to an image-receiving apparatus. The receiving apparatus discriminates the region attribution automatically, on the basis of an expanded image obtained by expanding the received image, and performs an image optimization correcting treatment, corresponding to each region so that the correction characteristics of the image optimization correcting treatment in the image transmission apparatus becomes opposite to that of the image optimization correcting treatment in the image-receiving apparatus. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
