<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of realizing the shortening of time taken to restore the surface temperature of a fixing body to a temperature at which a color image can be fixed in the case of fixing the color image after a state where the surface temperature of the fixing body has become lower than temperature required to fix the color image because the fixing processing of a black-and-white image has been performed, and to provide an image forming apparatus equipped with the fixing device. <P>SOLUTION: In the case of shifting a mode from a 1st mode for performing the fixing processing in a specified temperature range in which the black-and-white image can be fixed to a 2nd mode for performing the fixing processing of an unfixed image which can be fixed as the color image having a lower limit temperature above the lower limit in the specified temperature range, a controller 25 makes power per unit time applied to an external heating roller 29 greater than that at the fixing processing time in the 1st mode in a shifting period from the completion of the fixing processing in the 1st mode to the starting time of the fixing processing in the 2nd mode or in an optional period from the completion of the fixing processing in the 1st mode to the completion of the fixing processing in the 2nd mode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
