The present invention discloses a novel microwave dielectric composition of the general formula 5AO-2B2O5 wherein A=Ba, Sr, Ca, Mg or Zn and B=Nb or Ta, and a process for the preparation thereof In one embodiment of the invention, the dielectric constant is in the range 11±1 to 42±1, quality factor-frequency in the range 2000 and 88,000 and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency in the range +140±7 and -73±5 ppm/° C.
