The gripper has at least two opposite arms (5,6) guided on a centre piece (2). One arm is connectable to a vehicle whilst the second arm (6) and centre piece for opening and closing the gripper can be moved by a positioning member (3) relative to each other and relative to the first arm. Each arm has further first and second webs (8,9) which are at right angles to each other so that the first webs have on facing sides gripper sections (7) which can be placed against the object whilst the second webs are displaceable in the centre piece.
