PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display is provided to prevent display deterioration by accurately maintaining a cell gap of a TFT substrate and a color filter substrate of a liquid crystal display panel against an external pressure. CONSTITUTION: Shield films(720) shield non-active display areas formed between pixel electrodes(630) and open active display areas corresponding to the pixel electrodes. Color pixels(733,735,737) cover the non-active display areas and the parts facing the pixel electrodes with having apertures(725) to expose the shielding films by partially removing color pixels placed at the non-active display areas. Cell gap maintaining elements(780) are formed inside the apertures formed on the shielding films to maintain a cell gap between a first substrate and a second substrate. The hardness of the cell gap maintaining elements are higher than the hardness of the color pixels.
