Method for producing a printed a printed image on a supporting medium (24) in which the surface of a print substrate (20) is coated with ink-repellent or ink-attracting layers. During a structuring process ink-attracting and ink-repelling areas are produced corresponding to the image to be printed. The surface of the print substrate is cleaned before a new image can be deposited on the substrate. A water or ice layer is used as an ink repellant. An Independent claim is made for a device for generation of a print image on a print substrate that allows cleaning of the print substrate in between deposition of different images.
