Laser centering device (30) comprises an inner cylinder (32) with a pentagon prism (40) fixed to one end and an internal laser radiation source (42). An intermediate cylinder (34) is provided to move the inner cylinder in an axial direction and fix it in a chosen position. An outer cylinder (36) rotates the intermediate cylinder about its axis and fixes it at a selected angle. The outer cylinder is fixed to the optical centering system of a measurement instrument (1). Independent claims are included for: (1) a method for adjusting a laser centering device in a measurement instrument; (2) a target mat for adjusting and alignment of said laser centering device.
