Electromagnet coils are alternately supplied with current. A controller (14 ) receives values for the desired trajectory for the stroke (z) and speed of an armature (4) moving between pole surfaces, and also for the current (I) flowing through a coil of the respective attracting electromagnet (8,9). An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus for controlling the movement of an armature.
