The guide device (1) comprises a casing (2) with at least one pair of guide parts (3A, 3B) defining a throat through which the spring (5) can be passed in an axial direction. A transmission connected to at least one of the guide parts has an input with a coupling mechanism for connecting it to the output shaft of a drilling machine. The guide parts have a profile (7) corresponding to the turns of the spring and can be moved in a forwards direction between an open position in which the throat is open to allow the spring to be inserted or removed, and a closed position in which the throat is narrowed. During use, the profiles on the guide parts engage in a form-fit manner with the spring, so that axial displacement of the spring is only possible by the non-slip turning of the guide parts. An Independent claim is also included for a method for guiding a tensile spring through a electric cable duct using this guide.
