Production of a product by joining a pre-product under vacuum without using a getter material comprises: subjecting a pre-product to a vacuum in a vacuum chamber; and joining in a joining region to form a welding seam, a solid body welding seam, a hard solder seam, a soft solder seam or an inorganic adhesive joint. The joining region contains a low pressure equilibrium with a defined vacuum. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a joining apparatus for carrying out the process; and (b) a vacuum insulating panel for encasing the vacuum chamber.
