[Also in Division C1] In a glass melting tank, the glass making ingredients 24 are fed in by a batch feeder 22 melted in the melting zone 28, and allowed to flow towards a working end adjacent the front wall 14 and into a refining zone, and substantially the entire bottom of the refining zone 30 is cooled by blowing air from a blower or blowers 38 on to the furnace bottom 18. A curtain 39 extending from the furnace bottom 18 protects the melting zone 28 from undue cooling. |
