The nozzle (1) has two main parts. The upper part (9) is rigid. The lower part (10) is moved up or down, to change the width of the nozzle opening (6). They (9, 10) are connected to a nozzle adapter (4) held detachably on the extruder flange (19). The lower part of the nozzle pivots with its shaft (11) carried in bearings mounted in side cheeks (12). The nozzle is adjusted either directly through the shaft, or through a lever (20) on the lower part, which is connected to an actuator (13). The plastic is forced from the extruder bore (8) to the nozzle opening through the nozzle channel, with uniform flow guidance through the nozzle channel (7) into the altered cross section. The actuator is built-on below the nozzle and is a servo motor or hydraulic cylinder. It connects through the drive lever (20) and thrust rod (18) to the shaft. The outlet edges (14) of the lower nozzle are at right angles to the shaft axis. The nozzle channel transitions conically from the circular section to the opening (6). The lower nozzle is fitted against a floating section (16) and a resilient seal (17), which also rests against the nozzle adaptor (4). The actuator (13) is fastened to the nozzle adapter.
