Production of a molded component comprises adding an inorganic binder and/or expanded glass granules to a clay composition to be foamed and molded except foaming agents, foaming in the conventional manner, molding, drying and firing. Preferred Features: 0.5-20 weight % of the inorganic binder are added to the clay composition. 1-40 weight % of the expanded glass granules are added to the clay composition. The inorganic binder is made from metakaolin or thermally activated clay and alkalis and/or alkali silicates of the composition Na2O/Al2O3 and Na2O/SiO2 dissolved in water.
