<p>An image processing device for automatically improving contrast of an input image obtained by a digital camera or the like, thereby obtaining a clear image. Contrast improving means (11) performs contrast improvement of an input image by comparing an object pixel of the input image with pixels belonging to its peripheral area. Image combining means (12) combines an emphasis image obtained by the contrast improvement processing with the input image.
