<p>This invention provides a fire starter composition including ethanol produced through a process of fermentation of a carbohydrate sourced from plant material; a gelling agent; water; and a coupling agent for stabilising the composition, in the form of an amine ester. The composition further includes an insect repelling agent, carbon particles, and one or more combustion promoters selected from the group consisting of potassium chlorate, sodium chlorate, potassium nitrate, sodium nitrate, ammonium nitrate and ammonium persulphate. This invention further relates to use of the composition in a portable cooker and to a method of preparing the composition. This invention further relates to a briquette for providing a heat source on combustion comprising a mixture of the composition and carbon particles. The composition is environmentally friendly and safe and easy to use.</p> |
