Current-carrying component made from high grade steel has a layer containing a carbonate mixture containing Li, Na and/or K. The component with the layer is calcined in an inert or a reducing atmosphere to form a surface layer on the component. Preferred Features: The layer containing the carbonate mixture is applied in the form of a solution or by spraying on the component. The carbonate mixture is a mixture of the following carbonates: Li/Na, Li/K, Li/Na/K, Li/Na/X/Y or Li/K/X/Y (where X, Y = one or more alkali, alkaline earth or other metal carbonates or oxides or hydroxides). The calcining temperature is 600-1400 degrees C, preferably 600-1000 degrees C. Calcining is carried out for 15-90, preferably 30-60 minutes. |
