<p>An expansion engine, wherein high-temperature, high-pressure steam is fed to an expansion chamber (43) formed between pistons (42) and a cylinder sleeve (41) to press a swash plate (31) by the pistons (42) so as to rotatingly driving a rotor (22), an annular insulating space (70) is formed in a rotor head (38) facing the expansion chamber (43) to suppress the escape of the heat of the high-temperature, high-pressure steam fed to the expansion chamber (43) to the rotor (22) so as to prevent a thermal efficiency from lowering, and a metal gasket (36) is installed between the end face of the cylinder sleeve (41) and the end face of the rotor head (38) to seal the expansion chamber (43), whereby since a wasteful volume around the seal can be decreased as compared with a case in which the expansion chamber (43) is sealed through a thick-walled annular seal member, the volume ratio (expansion ratio) of the expansion engine can be largely assured to increase a thermal efficiency so as to increase an output.</p> |
