1308700 Jacketing pipes in H 2 SO 4 production METALLGESELLSCHAFT AG 30 June 1970 [2 July 1969] 31720/70 Heading C1A In a process for making H 2 SO 4 in which SO 3 is obtained catalytically from SO 2 and passed prior to absorption through a heat exchanger which cools the SO 3 and heats the residual gases from the absorber, the residual gases are passed to the heat exchanger through a jacketed pipe, a hot gas being passed into the jacket such that the walls of the pipe are above the dew point of the gases. Preferably the hot gas is a fraction of the SO 3 containing gas from the converter, which is mixed with the remaining gases before entering the absorber. After heat exchange the residual gases may be passed to a further catalyst stage. |
