The bale press has a press box (2) with a vertical shaft (2a) and a press area (4) above the base (9) and an upper filling area (3), in which a press plate is movable. The shaft is formed by a rear wall (5) and two opposing side walls, together with at least one front door (8) closing the press area. At least one guide unit is provided on or in the base of the shaft for accommodation/guiding of binding material (16). One end of the guide unit faces the rear wall and the other end faces the front side of the base. Passing through the ends is a groove-type channel. The guide unit is of one-piece construction, or can comprise several parts. The groove-type channel has a dovetail or biconcave cross-section.
