Sanitary proximity fitting

The tap (1) has a proximity sensor (9) coupled to a control device (9) for a valve (10) controlling the water flow. The control device responds to proximity signals from either side of the valve for providing hot or cold water respectively. When a proximity signal is detected from one side of the valve the corresponding valve position is held for a timed duration before the valve position can be altered upon detection of a proximity signal from the other side of the valve.
