FIELD: solid-state physics; magneto-optics and optical spectrophotometry. SUBSTANCE: optical reflection and optical specimen passage spectra are recorded in wavelength range lambda = (0,6/1,1) mm. These spectra are used to calculate and construct optical absorption spectra. Thulium and ytterbium concentration is found from special mathematical formulas by presence and height of peaks on definite wavelengths of optical absorption spectra. EFFECT: provision for detecting minimal concentration of rare-earth impurities in single-crystalline ferrite-garnets. 1 cl, 5 dwg
