A cowl structure comprises an outer skin, for transmitting a load applied to the cowl structure in use, and an inner skin comprising three sections (eg. at the nose region or the exhaust region of the cowl). A first section 28, is located between second and third sections 30,32 and connected thereto by joints 34, 36 that allow relative movement between the sections. The joint 34, may comprise brackets on the first section 28, slidably engaging bearing members on the second section 30, an inner cover plate also being present (fig. 3). Alternatively the joint may comprise a radially outwardly extending support attached to the first section, and a spring member extending from one end of the support member and engaging the second section 30, and aperture in the spring member locating on a dowel provided on the second section (fig. 4). The joint 36 may also comprise a radially extending support and spring member (fig. 5). The joints may be provided with seals (eg. P-shape seals). The arrangement isolates the second section 30 from vertical and side forces originating at or close to the third section 32. The outer skin may have pivotal doors or slidable regions.
|
