A catheter introducer assembly (10) is disclosed whereby the safety spring clip (20) moves into position to block the needle tip (26) occurs as a direct consequence of the withdrawal of the needle from the catheter bore. The catheter introducer assembly according to the present invention comprises a needle (12) and a needle hub (14), a catheter (16) and a catheter hub (18), and a safety spring clip assembly (20).
