Removing residues from the filter body (4) of a particle filter (1) of an exhaust gas device of a vehicle comprises filling the particle filter with a liquid rinsing agent (8), and passing a gaseous rinsing medium through the filter body against the filtering direction. The liquid rinsing agent rests for a prescribed time after it has been fed to the particle filter. After the prescribed time interval the gaseous rinsing medium is used. An Independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the process. Preferred Features: The rinsing agent rests for 3-8 minutes. The rinsing agent is water, preferably without the additional of surfactants or other cleaning agents. The water is at 75-90 degrees C when its if fed into the particle filter.
