The elastic region of the ball head is supported against radial elastic contraction by a support part inside the axial hole in the ball head containing the expansion means. The joint is particularly useful for connecting a shaft to a shoe in an axial piston machine and comprises a first part with a ball-shaped head and a second part with a cavity for receiving the head. The second part includes an edge region which surrounds the cavity opening and grips around the head, the latter containing an approximately axial hole and having a central equatorial region with a flattened ball head profile which is pushed out using an expansion means inside the hole. An Independent claim is also included for a method for making the joint by forming a round cavity in the piston or shoe with such an undercut that the cavity has a spatial angle region (W1) of more than 180 degree and the diameter (D) in the equatorial plane (5) is greater than the diameter (d) of the cavity opening (3), and forming a round ball head on the shoe or piston so that the head has a central region parallel to its length axis with a flattened profile, the diameter in the flattened region being less than or approximately equal to the diameter of the cavity opening.
