The bushing has a cylindrical metal envelope (2) enclosing a bar conductor (4). An annular piece (6) of conductive material is placed round the envelope and has a cap (7) to form a closed space (E) outside the envelope. The annular piece is sacrificed if an arc discharge (A) pierces the envelope. The cover and cap retain molten metal and hot gas resulting from piercing of the envelope.
