PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new microorganism useful for effectively producing pravastatin from mevastatin in high production rate and to provide a method for producing the pravastatin by using the same. SOLUTION: The sequence of 502 bases from the 5' end of a 16S rRNA gene of the microorganism is manifested in the sequence No 1 in a sequence table (refer to the specification), and the method for producing the pravastatins comprises acting the microorganism on the mevastatins.
