PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guide device for adjustable roof element capable of preventing a too large force from acting on a transmission member. SOLUTION: This guide device for an adjustable roof element selectively closes or at least partially opens the roof opening of a vehicle. The guide device comprises a guided traveling route 14 fixed to the roof element, a slider 18, and a transmission engaged with a first guided traveling route 30 fixed to a body in vertical and lateral direction and driven slidably along the first guided traveling route fixed to the body in vertical direction and slidably in lateral direction relative to the slider. The slider 18 is engaged with a second guided traveling route 32 fixed to the body in vertical direction and slidable along a second guided traveling route fixed to the body in vertical direction 24, and slidable on the second guided traveling route fixed to the body at least through a specified distance in lateral direction 22.
