PURPOSE: A method for controlling traveling stability of a vehicle is provided to compare the desired-vehicle lateral acceleration with the real-vehicle lateral acceleration, to decide the state of the road surface, and to reduce the engine output in the road state of low friction coefficient. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling traveling stability of a vehicle includes steps of calculating the desired-vehicle lateral acceleration, using the vehicle speed and the steering angle of the vehicle, in turning(S110); detecting the real vehicle-lateral acceleration(S120); and deciding the road surface state of the traveling vehicle according to the difference value between the detected real vehicle-lateral acceleration and the desired vehicle-lateral acceleration(S130). If the difference value between the desired vehicle-lateral acceleration and the real vehicle-lateral acceleration is over a predetermined reference value, the road surface state is decided as the road surface of low friction coefficient, and the engine output of the vehicle is reduced to estimate the desired vehicle-lateral acceleration(S140).
