PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining an optically active 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol of high purity from a clathrate compound formed by reaction between a 1,1'-bi- naphthol and an optically active proline. SOLUTION: The clathrate compound which is obtained by reaction between the 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol and the optically active proline is mixed with a solvent selected from alcohols of 2-4 carbon atoms, aliphatic esters of 2-5 carbon atoms, halogenated hydrocarbons of 2-4 carbon atoms and cyclic ethers, they are heated, dissolved under stirring and/or dispersed. The reaction mixture is cooled down to precipitate crystals. The crystals are separated and decomposed whereby the optically active 1,1'-bi-naphthol is purified. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
