<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a grain oriented magnetic steel sheet excellent in hot shortness and magnetic characteristics by a process based upon the recycle of iron resources. <P>SOLUTION: In this method for producing a grain oriented magnetic steel sheet, a slab containing 0.09% or lower C, 2.0-4.0% Si, 0.03-0.12 Mn, 0.015-0.035 S, and the balance being Fe and unavoidable components is subjected to the steps of: heating the slab at 1,250°C or higher in an atmosphere control type electric heating furnace; hot rolling the slab to obtain a hot rolled plate; cold rolling the plate one or more times including intermediate annealing; and then conducting decarbonization annealing and high-temperature annealing.
