PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telescopic ink jet imaging apparatus wherein no level difference occur in the guide member of a carriage. SOLUTION: The ink jet imaging apparatus is provided, in the frame 1 thereof, with a section 2 for carrying a recording medium and a section 3 for printing on the recording medium under carriage by means of a print head 23 carried on a carriage 20 moving in the main scanning direction wherein a guide member 22 for guiding the frame 1 and the carriage 20 in the main scanning direction can telescope to enlarge/contract the print region in the main scanning direction.
