PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for taking endoscopic images which is capable of improving accuracy of fixing a lens frame and a sliding capability of a mobile lens frame. SOLUTION: The objective optical unit 31 having a variable magnification or focusing capability is composed of a front group of the lens frame 34 that holds the front group of the lens 34a to be fixed and a rear group of the lens frame 35 to be installed in series on the basic terminal side of this front group of the lens frame 34 to be fixed to hold the rear group of the lens 35a on the posterior side, sheathing a slidable mobile lens frame 36 toward an optic axis between the rear group of the lens 35a and the above front group of the lens 34a. The front group of the lens frame 34 forms an abutting surface 51 that decides a longitudinal position of the rear group of the lens frame 35 and an abutting surface 52 that regulates the sliding of the mobile lens frame 36 toward the forefront. The rear group of the lens frame 35 forms a surface 53 that fits the front group of the lens frame 34 to be fixed on the side of a leading edge and the sliding surface 54 that allows the mobile lens frame 36 to be slided on the levels being different from that for the fitting surface 53.
