PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for converting the methyl group of a nitrogen- containing heterocyclic compound into a carboxyl group with a microorganism belonging to Verticillium sp. SOLUTION: This method for producing a carboxylic acid represented by formula (II) (Y is a direct bond, N or C) is characterized by treating a heterocyclic compound represented by formula (I) with the cells of Verticillium sp.
