PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substitute for a smoke material, capable of giving such an imitative smoking feeling that the substitute is ignited by fire at its tip so as to generate heat as if actual tobacco does, while conventional substitutes are not ignited by actual fire for smoking. SOLUTION: This substitute for the smoke material is composed of a core cotton 2, a sheet material 3, and a heat-generating member 4, wherein the sheet material 3 is located on the outer surface of the core cotton 2 which comprises an absorbent into which an inhalant, such as menthol, is penetrated, and the heat-generating member 4 which generates heat by combining with oxygen is positioned outside the sheet materials 3. Further, the outside of the heat- generating member 4 is covered with a casing 5 made of a plastic. Thus, the substitute gives the imitative feeling of the actually fired tobacco by making the heat-generating member 4 generate the heat. A heat-generating area is locally limited, because oxygen is only fed from an opening part 51, and then the heat-generating area gradually moves toward an inhaling opening 60, so that an imitative state closely similar to that of the actually smoked tobacco is realized. Because the inhalant is helped in its evaporation due to the heat generation, an inhalation concentration of the inhalant is increased. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
