PURPOSE: A refrigerator is provided to allow a supporting rib to be easily formed and manufactured. CONSTITUTION: Supporting ribs(17) are formed on side walls(12) of a refrigerator compartment. A shelf(30) contacts with the supporting ribs to be supported thereby. The supporting ribs are protrusively formed on the side walls in front-rear direction. A plurality of the supporting ribs are formed on the side walls to face each other and separated from each other by fixed distance in vertical direction to support the shelf depending on height of stored objects. The supporting ribs start to be formed from locations separated from a front side of the refrigerator compartment and to locations separated from a rear wall(14) of the refrigerator compartment for free movement. The supporting ribs are not extended to the rear side of the refrigerator compartment to increase effective capacity of the refrigerator compartment. Smoothly curved parts(17a) are formed on front ends(17c) and rear ends(17b) of the supporting ribs to allow the shelf to be easily installed.
