PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat treatment process for recovering the mechanical properties of an aircraft engine member containing a cast inconel 718 part welded to a forged member. SOLUTION: The heat treatment process comprises the following steps: a member containing a cast inconel 718 part is placed in a heating chamber, the chamber is vacuum-pumped to achieve an appropriate atmosphere, the chamber is heated to a temperature range of 1,950-2,050°F while allowing minimum deformation of the cast part, the temperature range is kept for a period sufficient for all delta-phase precipitates to be dissolved, and the member is cooled to room temperature while allowing minimum deformation of the member. After the solution heat treatment, the forged part of the engine member can be removed and replaced to allow recycling of the engine member. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
