PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a copolymer obtained from an olefin/a polar vinyl monomer at a high activity. SOLUTION: The method for producing the copolymer comprises copolymerizing (C) the olefin and (D) the polar vinyl monomer with the use of a catalyst consisting of (A) a layer compound and (B) a complex of a transition metal belonging to the table 4-10 of the periodic law.
