In the treatment of solid residues from combustion of S-contg. fuel in a circulating fluidised bed boiler furnace, in which limestone is added to the furnace, the novelty comprises: (a) grinding the fuel to < 100 mu m and the limestone to a mean size of 100-150 mu m with a max. of 1 mm, prior to introduction into the furnace; (b) collecting, at the furnace base, combustion residues contg. CaO and CaSO4 (from SO2 absorption) for heat treatment in a reactor to obtain a SO2-contg. gas mixt. and a CaO-based solid material; (c) passing the SO2 to an H2SO4 mfg. unit; (d) water quenching and then grinding the solid material to reactivate the specific surface of the solid material; and (e) re-injecting part of the solid material, in aq. suspension form, into the furnace and using the rest of the solid material in cement-making. Also claimed is a heat treatment appts. for carrying out the above process.

|
