PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an instrument and method for measuring driving locus and driving attitude for shield driving method by which driving operations can be performed by grasping the whole driving locus even when the driving distance become longer, and, at the same time, a shield machine can be controlled and operated by measuring the attitude of the machine with high accuracy. SOLUTION: The driving locus and attitude measuring instrument is provided with one, two, or more measuring pipes 2-6 connected between the shield machine 1 and a buried pipe 7, angular bias measuring means C<SB>1</SB>-C<SB>5</SB>which can measure adjacent angular bias between the machine 1 and each of measuring pipes 2-6, a driving distance measuring means 17 which can measure the driving distances of the machine 1 and the pipes 2-6 from a driving starting point. The instrument is also provided with an angle and attitude measuring means G which is installed to at least the rearmost measuring pipe and can measure the angle and attitude of the pipe with respect to a horizontal plane, an arithmetic unit 16 which calculates the driving distances and driving attitudes from the outputs of the measuring means C<SB>1</SB>-C<SB>5</SB>, 17, and G, and a display device which displays the information on the driving distances and attitudes outputted from the arithmetic unit 16 and/or an output device which outputs the information on the driving distances and attitudes.
