PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal melter that melts various steels or nonferrous metals by a semi-levitation process without pollution and with excellent power efficiency. SOLUTION: The metal melter 1 includes a furnace wall 4 of a crucible 2 comprising a refractory and substantially presenting a cylinder, a plurality of seal cooling pipes 6 passed substantially vertically in the furnace wall 4 and spaced along the periphery of the furnace wall 4, a nonconductive and airtight seal cylinder 8 covering an outer peripheral surface of the furnace wall 4 of the crucible 2, and an induction coil 18 helically wound around the seal cylinder 8.
