A machine is claimed for remote-controlled lid (3) removal from or fitting on a vessel (2), using a percussive screw-driving unit (22) to screw headed screws (4), received in holes (5) in the lid, into or out of threaded holes (6) of a vessel flange (7). The machine has a rail-mounted carriage (11) carrying a frame (12) with a vertically displaceable intermediate plate (19) which is associated with a rotary base plate (21), holding several screw-drivers (22), and which carries the lid (3) as well as gripping and positioning elements for manipulation purposes.
